Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring in the Management of Hypertension
نویسنده
چکیده
Ambulatory blood pressure measurement (ABPM) is being used increasingly in clinical practice. In recognition of this the British Hypertension Society has published recommendations for the use and interpretation of ABPM in clinical practice, and the European Society of Hypertension has published recommendations on blood pressure measuring devices, including devices for ABPM. Importantly, the technique has finally been approved for reimbursement in the USA. So with worldwide acceptance of the technique, it is timely to reappraise the reasons why ABPM has at last become an indispensable technique for the management of hypertension, and to summarise current recommendations for its use in clinical practice.

Resistant hypertension, case based approach to diagnosis and management: case report
Background: Resistant hypertension is defined when the blood pressure remains elevated above the therapeutic target levels despite the use of three antihypertensive agents including calcium channel blocker (CCB), renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blocker and a diuretic. These drugs should be used at maximally tolerated doses and white coat effect and non-adherence should also be excluded. In this ...

Background: Previous studies have indicated that Ramadan fasting has beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk factors, specially blood pressure and heart rate. In the present study, the effect of Ramadan fasting on 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure and heart rate has been investigated. Materials and Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted on two groups of individuals. Six p...
متن کاملCost-effectiveness of ambulatory blood pressure: a reanalysis.
Accurate diagnosis of hypertension and prognosis for future cardiovascular events can be enhanced through the use of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. It has been suggested that the use of ambulatory monitoring as a secondary screening for hypertension might be cost-effective. Many needed studies that are related to the calculation of cost-effectiveness for ambulatory monitoring hav...
متن کاملAutomated blood pressure measurement for diagnosing hypertension.
Guidelines for the management of hypertension have started to include home blood pressure (BP) and 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring as preferred methods for diagnosing hypertension. The next step will be to incorporate automated office BP measurement into the algorithm for diagnosing hypertension. Recent studies support this approach with automated office BP readings being closely correlated with ...
متن کاملAmbulatory blood pressure monitoring in clinical practice: a review.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring offers the ability to collect blood pressure readings several times an hour across a 24-hour period. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring facilitates the identification of white-coat hypertension, the phenomenon whereby certain individuals who are not taking antihypertensive medication show elevated blood pressure in a clinical setting but show nonelevated b...
متن کاملUtility of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for the management of hypertension.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, affecting nearly 80 million individuals in the United States alone. Accurate measurement of blood pressure (BP) is the crucial first step to reduce the associated cardiovascular risk of hypertension. For decades, clinicians have relied on office BP measurements for the diagnosis and subsequent managemen...
